DIEGO FIGUEROA
Diego Figueroa´s (b. 1975, Buenos Aires) body of work explores the tensions between the “legitimate” and the popular. His operations make use of procedures like the quote and displacement; parody and intelligent sarcasm are applied to canonical works from Western art and culture history, through a personal grammar of everyday materials, whose use alters and diverts.
Paintings, sculptures, drawings and installations, that further interrogate the tensions between the popular and the classic, and the relations of class and power that they inevitably represent, transferring those tensions to the materials with which he works.
Figueroa attended workshop by artist Eduardo Medici and received the Fundación Antorchas Grant and the Fondo Nacional de las Artes Grant.
Figueroa resides and works between Colonia Benitez and Resistencia, Chaco. Since 2002, he has developed different projects to promote the visual arts in his adopted city. For many years, he coordinated different workshops for artists in other regions of Argentina.

Figueroa has been the recipient of numerous notable awards, including a Mention at the Concurso de artes visuales Fondo Nacional de las Artes, Buenos Aires (2018); Plataforma Futuro Grant, Ministerio de Cultura de la Nación (2016); Premio Igualdad Cultural – Visual Arts (2013), 2nd Prize at Bienal de Pintura del Consejo Federal de Inversiones (2013); 1st Prize at the Fundación la Capital, Museo Castagnino de Rosario (2003); 2nd Prize at the Salón Nacional de Salta (2001); Grand Prize of Honor at the V Salón Nacional del Mar, Centro Cultural Auditórium, Mar del Plata (1999); 3rd Prize at the Salón Nacional de Santa Fe, Museo de Bellas Artes Rosa Galisteo de Rodriguez (1998); Mention at the Premio Palais de Glace, Young Painting, Buenos Aires (1997).
In 2015, a book has been published brining together Figueroa´s works from 2005 to 2015. Work by the artist is found in many important collections.
